Baptism Weekend - Woodinville
Here we are in Woodinville during Peter’s Baptism Weekend. Since everybody traveled quite a ways to be here we thought we should have some fun out and about. This was our Saturday excursion.
On the left we are all touring the Columbia Winery. We also managed to fit in some tasting at the end of the tour. The winery offers a wonderful free tour of their facility, talks about different grape varietals in Washington, addresses the key differences in red and white wine making, and overall gives you a brief look at the history of wine growing in Washington. Very informative - keep that in mind as you read further. On the right is Emma playing in the park with Grandma.
Next door to the Columbia Winery is the Red Hook Brewery, so we also fit in a tour of their facility. The Red Hook tour is a bit different. You pay $1 for your tasting glass and then you drink a beer. Then you stand in the room and listen to a tour guide who looks like a fraternity brother for two minutes before drinking another beer. After the frat guy tells you why Red Hook is better than Budweiser you drink another beer. Then, you walk ten feet to look at the beer tanks and drink another beer. Finally, you walk 100 feet to look at the production facility and then you drink another beer.
I must say, both the winery and the beer tours were completely appropriate for the product they are selling. Completely different tours, but great fun.
Here is the tasting/tour room.
After a day of touring we ate dinner at the Forecaster’s Pub at the brewery. You may notice from the picture of father and sons that the Red Hook Brewery got its start in a Norwegian part of Seattle - Ya sure, ya betcha. You may also notice that Peter received plenty of attention over the weekend. And don’t worry, he did not share in any of the tasting going on.
